Safelight operates a nationally accredited Child Advocacy Center in Henderson County where children and their families are provided crisis intervention due to abuse.

Reopening December 2016 and accepting clients again starting in January 2017, our Child Advocacy Center (CAC) is nationally accredited and as a coordinated community effort. The Henderson County Sheriff’s Department, the Henderson County Department of Social Services, Henderson County Department of Health, Fletcher Police Department, Laurel Park Police Department, Hendersonville Police Department, Henderson County School Counselors, the District Attorney’s Office and others partner with Safelight to coordinate the services provided at the CAC.

Our CAC provides a child-friendly, safe, and neutral location in which we conduct and observe forensic interviews and child medical exams as one and done with the family and children who are the alleged victims of crime and where the child and the non-offending family members receive support, crisis intervention and referrals for mental health and medical treatment. The CAC’s main objective is to reduce trauma to child victims by bringing all the disciplines together and sharing information more efficiently to minimize duplication.

Success Story

Coming to the Child Advocacy Center (CAC) has changed our lives. There was a lot of abuse that I was unaware of, and all it took was for one of my children to disclose something that had happened to them a while ago.

From there, my three other children were also able to talk about some of the similar abuse that they have experienced. I am glad that we are now getting the help that we need. Coming to the CAC was our first step towards our healing. My kids were able to speak with someone about the abuse they had gone through, following a medical exam.

The process was a lot easier than I expected, the staff made us feel cared for and safe. Through Safelight, my children and I are able to receive counseling services and advocacy, this had all been completely free to us. I am thankful that a place like this exist for families and children who are survivors of any type of abuse.
